  • Former NERC Certified-System Operator and Continuing Education Administrator for System Operator credentials.
  • Holds a Bachelor of Science, Electrical Engineering and Dual Masters in Science of Management and Business Administration.

Biography

Brian Van Gheem has extensive experience in reliability compliance for the electric utility industry. He has worked as an industry advocate, advising bulk power system users, owners, and operators on electric reliability regulations. His expertise includes monitoring NERC activities, commenting on reliability standards, and assisting clients with their compliance enforcement activities, peer reviews, and mock audits. He has also participated in root cause analyses and developed internal controls for regulatory compliance programs.

Brian holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Michigan Technological University and Master’s degrees in management and business administration from the Indiana Institute of Technology. He is a NERC-certified Reliability Operator and a Registered Professional Engineer in Michigan and Indiana. Additionally, he is active in the Knights of Columbus and is an alumnus of Delta Upsilon Fraternity. Brian is happily married to his wife, Kathie, and they have eight wonderful children together.
